Cullaloe hills Rhizomnium

One of my favourite species from this weekend, and a new one for me - Rhizomnium psuedopunctatum. The biggest leaves are enormous at nearly 1cm long, and they are covered in matted rhizoids (like Aulacomnium palustre). I'm sure I have a photo, but here's a drawing I made of one example:

Hedwig's illustrations


Great illustration by Hedwig of Racomitrium lanuginosum, or Trichostomum as was. Instantly recognisable by the teeth on hyaline awns at the leaf tip. I could have recognised this species just from this illustration - from 1792!

Flora of North America

Came across some images in my travels from a book which has the most fantastic moss illustrations. Turned out to be Vol 27 of the Flora of North America.

Actually vols 27-29 are the bryo ones.
